Golf Clothing Buying Guide

When choosing golf attire, you should take into account the dress code of the golf club you'll be playing at, the type of weather conditions you play in and your own personal comfort. Above all, golf clothes should be light, comfortable and allow freedom of movement while playing. It also helps if you look good because then you feel good - and feeling good can boost your confidence, which in turn can help raise your level of play.

Standard golf apparel includes shorts or trousers, collared shirts, pullovers, windproof or waterproof jackets, and trousers for cold and wet weather. Golf clothing is also available in high performance materials such as microfibre, which provides the breathability and lightness of cotton, with the durability and quick-drying qualities of polyester. As opposed to years ago, golf clothing is no longer solely about practicality or style. Fashion still does play a large part today, but many golf clothes now include sporting elements as standard to enhance the player's ability and performance on the course.Golf Jackets
Jackets are advisable to have as part of your every-day golf wear to protect against cold, wet, and windy weather. As with other golf apparel, a golf # jacket should be comfortable, allowing you to swing freely while still keeping you warm, and protecting you from the elements.

Waterproof jackets are usually made with Gore-Tex and offer complete protection against the rain. Showerproof or windproof jackets are typically made from Teflon-treated material which keeps water from penetrating for short periods of time, but will not keep you dry in heavy rain. Showerproof jackets are more lightweight and less expensive than a completely waterproof jacket, and are often a good option for playing golf in temperate climates. Windproof jackets prevent wind penetration while remaining breathable. They are usually showerproof but rarely completely waterproof. Finally, short sleeved jackets are a thinner, lighter version of the full waterproof jacket and offer an outerwear alternative that's more breathable and allows even more freedom of movement.

Golf Jumpers or Pullovers
A jumper or pullover (wind shirt) is highly recommended in the case of sudden weather changes to provide extra warmth and protection against the wind. Pullovers are available in a variety of materials such as fleece, cotton, wool, and polyester and in a variety of styles including full length or short sleeved, hooded, v-neck, crew necks, polo-necked and zipped. Finally, a weather-gear vest or tank top is a sleeveless jacket that can be used in cold or windy weather, but is not waterproof and does not offer the higher level protection from the elements that a jacket does.

Collared Polo or Golf Shirt
Most golf course dress codes require players to wear a collared shirt. Tennis shirts and button down shirts are usually acceptable, but most players opt for a cotton or microfibre polo shirt. Golf polo shirts can be just a simple, inexpensive top, or it can come with new material technologies designed to keep you cool and fit perfectly through each momentof your swing.
Golf Trousers
While most clubs allow men to wear tailored golf shorts, you should always check to see whether only trousers are allowed. Women's golf dress codes usually allow for knee-length shorts, skirts, or culottes.

Golf Headwear
No matter what the weather, some form of golf head gear is recommended. A wide brimmed hat is usually the most versatile option, providing sun protection on clear days as well as cover from rainfall during wet weather.
